About

Welcome to our site! We relish the chance to share all the good things about Juniper ward. We are a mens acute mental health ward and we have 24 beds, including 6 ministry of defence beds. We are based at Parklands hospital in Basingstoke. There are many reasons why I love my job as the activities coordinator on the ward, but the two standouts are – 1, I get to spend my time assisting people with feeling better, whether that’s by engaging them with activities such as walks in the surrounding countryside, running art groups, having deep discussion groups about the nature of time being relative according to Einstein’s theories…we chat about all sorts of stuff. Sometimes people would rather do a mindfulness meditation session, for that we often get out our Tibetan singing bowl and all is very peaceful – and we cater for all tastes in therapy through the activities programmes. The second reason I love my job is the ethic of teamwork on the ward. Our manager is all about equality and everyone on the ward, staff and patients are all treated equally. It’s not always easy but we believe that good things can be accomplished by working together.
